Many travelers believe that life is too short to visit the same place twice. But returning can be one of the most rewarding travel experiences.
Sitting in a café you visited years ago and recognising the atmosphere, the streets, the feeling – it’s like meeting an old friend. A place that once felt foreign suddenly feels familiar. And that emotional connection is something a first visit can never give.
Why Returning Feels Different
When you return, travel becomes deeper. You’re no longer just exploring – you’re reconnecting.
You notice more, feel more, and experience a place in a more personal way. It’s not about seeing everything anymore, but about feeling the place again. For me – the founder of “Meet The Road” – there are two very personal return destinations: Tarcal, and Barcelona.
Tarcal: A Village Worth Returning To
Tarcal is situated near the famous Tokaj, just on the other slope of the same hill.
During a road trip, we accidentally stayed in a wine cellar guesthouse hosted by Mr. Pataki – a passionate guide to Hungarian wines and pálinka. That one night turned into a tradition. I’ve returned several times since, just like in those stories where travellers revisit their favourite local hosts.

Returning to a Feeling: Barcelona
Another place I keep returning to is Barcelona.
It’s not easy to explain – it’s simply a feeling. Like many others, I’ve fallen in love with its energy. After six visits, I still return to the same cafés and streets, while always discovering something new.

Find Your Own Place
If you don’t yet have a place to return to, think about your past travels. There might already be somewhere that felt special. Returning doesn’t mean repeating the same trip – it means going deeper.
Plan your next journey with Meet The Road. Sometimes the best travel decision is not where to go next – but where to return.
