Disclaimer:
If your idea of beach perfection means plush resorts, cocktail service on demand, reserved loungers, or jet ski rentals every 5 minutes – this story might not be for you.
But if you’re open to something quieter, more personal, and refreshingly off the grid… read on.
The Quiet Charm of Remote Beaches
Let’s talk about remote beaches – the kind you’ll often find tucked into old fishing villages, far from mass tourism.
One such gem for our family was Telchac Puerto, on the northern coast of the Yucatán Peninsula, Mexico.
We ended up there completely by chance – finger on the map, book-and-go style. And what did we discover?
What We Found in Telchac Puerto
- A beachfront house at a surprisingly good price
- Privacy – no other tourists peeking into our space
- A sense of living like locals – buying groceries and ice cream in small shops, dining in simple seafood restaurants, strolling town streets with only residents around, not crowds
Sure, it wasn’t polished or curated.
The streets weren’t spotless. There were stray dogs and plenty of imperfections.
But when you travel meaningfully, you learn to weigh what matters:
Authenticity over appearances
Peace over convenience
Real over “Instagrammable”
What Else Is Nearby?
Telchac Puerto is just a short drive from:
- Chicxulub Crater Visitor Center in Progreso – where the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs hit Earth 65 million years ago
- Xcambó – a small but beautiful Mayan archaeological site surrounded by mangroves and flamingos
So if you’re into a bit of cosmic drama and ancient history – this coastline delivers.
A beach doesn’t need a five-star resort to be a five-star memory.
